Mulch is any material applied to the soil surface. It provides many benefits to a landscape, the one most desired is adding the finishing touch to outdoor spaces. Bark Mulch, sometimes referred to as Bark dust or Beauty Bark, is by far the most popular mulch for its beauty in a landscape. The biggest difference between different bark mulches is how they look. Fir bark chips 1/4" to 3/4" wide by 1/4" to 1 1/2" long.
Can be used for flat or gentle slope landscaping. Will deter cats but not keep out determined ones. Looks great around anything, gives a very polished, formal look. Less noticeable when sun fades pieces than bigger nuggets.
Fresh red hemlock bark ground to 1 1/2” minus.
Can be used for flat to steep slope landscaping. This is the bark that's called "sliver-less". Great for people with sliver-sensitive pets, small children, or people who like to play in their flower beds without gloves.
Red Fir Fines
Fresh fir bark screened to 3/8" minus.
Can be used for flat to steep slope landscaping. Professional landscapers like this one for the red color and fine consistency that makes it easy to rake fallen leaves and spent flowers out of.
Cedar Playground Chips
Wood chips screened ¼”-1.
While this isn't a bark mulch, it's perfect for dog runs and kennels, helps to control fleas and ticks. Makes a great walkway material. Can be used under playground equipment (use at least 1” of material per foot of fall zone--plan for some compaction).
Aged hemlock bark ground to 1 1/2” minus.

Dark Fir Fines
Aged fir bark, screened 3/8” minus.
Dark bark will make the plantings stand out more, flowers look brighter. Flat or steep slope landscaping. Professional landscapers like this product for the color and because it is easy to rake fallen leaves and spent flowers out of.
Fir bark chips 1 1/2" to 2 1/2".
Flat or gentle slope landscaping. These will deter cats. Really looks good around larger plantings, trees and bushes.
Ground cedar bark and cedar wood in varying proportions.
Can be used for landscaping around larger plantings, but is better used for muddy areas, pathways and tractor trails, corrals and around livestock areas.
Walk On Bark
Fir bark and wood pieces 3/4" to 1 1/2" wide with length up to 5".
Excellent for pathways, around larger plantings, on flat or steep slope landscaping, and in high wind areas.
Fresh Ground Fir
Fir bark 0" to 1 1/4".
Can be used for flat to steep slope landscaping. Looks great around anything. This is the bark that people are usually thinking of when they ask for "bark dust".
